Happy Halloween! It’s one of my favourite days of the year. I’m up early watching the sun rise and getting some work done before the fun begins. Usually, I plan weeks ahead for this, but as of yet I have no idea what my costume will be. This afternoon, I plan to empty out my closet and dive deep into my tickle trunk… we shall see what happens. And although I had no time to plan a costume this year, I did do a pretty wicked job of carving my jack-o-lantern. I guess I heard the owl call my name. Last year it was a poodle who called my name, and the year before, a unicorn.

In all seriousness, I have been wanting so much to see an owl out on one of my birding outings. Last winter I caught a quick glimpse of a big snowy one up at the top of a far-away tree… and just like that it was gone. Plus, my neighbour told me that she saw an owl sitting on a branch outside my front door just a few days ago. Where was I when all this was happening? Hmmmm. It seems that sometimes our messages come to us in indirect ways. According to Google, owl totem medicine signifies (among other things): clarity of vision, focus, intuitive powers and the ability to see that which others cannot. Perhaps it’s time to more fully open the eyes inside my mind instead of  just the ones on my face? But as my friend Agent Dale Cooper knows well – the owls are not what they seem.

In other very important news, it’s less than two weeks now until the release of Trilogies, Part 1. I’m so excited and can’t wait to share my new EP with you all! You will be able to order physical CD’s at www.kristinsweetland.com, download on iTunes and stream on all your favourite platforms. Stay tuned for links and more info.

Also, I have been working hard on a new photographic series called “The Sun Set.” The images feature digital collages of sunset photos taken on my iPhone.  The latest in the series was inspired by my recent birding (and wine-tasting) adventures to beautiful Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. More images from the series coming soon (and hopefully an exhibition before too long!)

Eat, drink and be witchy!
