Dearest Friends,

Happy Spring! After what felt like an extra long and extra grey winter, colour seems to be returning to my world (and my palette) once again. Much has happened in my life since last I wrote… I feel I’ve been speaking more in images than in words these days, but there are numerous items of news I’m excited to share with you all.

Firstly, I’m super pleased to announce I’ll be returning to the studio soon to complete my Trilogies series with producer extraordinaire Chris Stringer. I had always intended to do this much sooner, but with the pandemic, the sadness of my stolen guitar and other unforeseen situations that demanded my full attention, I wondered at times if it would ever come to pass… and so it shall be done. This announcement actually deserves a blog post all its own, so stay tuned for more info and insight into what’s been inspiring me musically of late and what to expect from the new recording.

In other news, I’ve been receiving lots of requests from folks to make more of my photographic prints available for sale. This has encouraged me to begin the process of restructuring my website to make it easier to order prints online, among other changes. My site (as it currently exists) has been so pleasing to me for so many years, however it’s time for a new look and some new energy in my online world. This will likely (at least partly) coincide with the release of the new album, so in the meantime if you have any ideas or suggestions feel free to let me know.

As well, another event that was postponed due to the pandemic was the celebration of the 25th anniversary of my Adventures In Sweetland self-portrait series. I had always hoped to do a proper gallery show in Toronto to mark this milestone and I reckon it’s not too late! I’m currently looking into options for this exhibition and will of course keep you all updated on any developments. You can find all the images from this series including my latest sub-series “Shelter” in the AIS gallery here.

Those of you who follow me on social media may have noticed I’ve been having some fun lately playing with my new drone! I just completed my introductory drone pilot course online -and am definitely still a serious beginner in this arena. However, I hope that with a reasonable amount of practice I can get to be a pro someday. It’s proved even more challenging than I thought it would be to pilot said craft in air, so of course I’ve been proceeding with much caution and consideration for my environment (and feathered friends.) You can have a peek at my very first effort in drone videography on my YouTube channel here. The video in question is the second in a series featuring clips from my new piano composition “La Vie (Après la Guerre).” Stay tuned for video part three coming soon.

Other than that I’m pleased to report I’m going to start planning my first couple of post-pandemic travel adventures soon. Besides one glorious writing retreat to a Northerly cabin I have not gone anywhere fun in ages! I have some exciting ideas and travels dreams that will be revealed one way or another very soon… and you never know… I might be sleeping on your couch somewhere before you know it.

More soon, lots of love

xo
