Thornbury, ON

Happy Summer, my starlets! And greetings from the Carr Astronomical Observatory up on the escarpment off glorious Georgian Bay. I’ve been here for a good week hiding away from the world (which seems to be my favourite pastime these days.) Since last we spoke I’ve driven all the way to St. John’s and back, through beautiful Quebec City, the Bay of Fundy, Halifax, Cape Breton, onto the ferry bound for Newfoundland and all the way across that magnificent province to the easternmost tip of Canada at Cape Spear.

That journey ended what had been a whirlwind year of work and adventure for me. From last summer’s crazy touring, to the Arctic Yukon in the fall, the book launch, the gallery show, then off to Mexico… When I had a moment to think about it I realized I was actually exhausted. So what better way for a lady to convalesce than to promenade through wildflower fields by day and stargaze by night? I feel like myself again at last. Today I pack up the van and head back to the big city. Right now I don’t care if I ever go back home, but when I get there I’m sure I’ll be glad to see the big bubble bath that awaits me.

However, I will miss the birds and the sky full of stars. I like to play a game with myself in which I try to name them all. Ruby-crowned kinglet, goldfinch, killdeer, raven, Venus, Jupiter, Vega, Deneb… Polaris. Then I scan the horizon and try to name the trees and constellations they are hiding in. I spend a lot of time looking up these days.

The rest of the summer is pretty chill in terms of gigs for me. My next big obligation includes puppysiting a prized poodle until I head off to New York City for a spell. I do have some upcoming shows with the Ladies In Waiting at the end of August, and exciting plans for the fall. Stay tuned for official announcements, I promise to update my tour page soon!

In the meantime I’ll be busy writing for the next Kristin Sweetland musical project and compiling content for the second Adventures In Sweetland book. And speaking of writing, keep your eye on mojojunction.com for the latest instalment of my Adventures In Sweetland essay series – this one with a Spacetime theme (of course.)

And for all the latest photos from my East Coast travels, have a peek at my New Found Sweet Land gallery. I’ll also be publishing some new astrophotos from my time up here at the observatory. Scroll down to Space and Time for those… coming soon!

Cosmic kisses,

xoxo
